  1. It's great to be a Chiefland Indian!

When our family moved back to Cedar Key from Key West last June we were coming off a great sports experience. Our son, Robby thrived down there with all the opportunities. Key West is a place that loves their youth sports. Team coaches know their game and are attentive to the athletes. The grand stands are full for city league, middle school and high school games. The Key West Citizen newspaper is full of the exploits of youth players in all sports boys and girls. We were uncertain if leaving the Keys was the best thing for Robby.

Our concerns were put to rest when we met the Chiefland High School football coaches. Head coach Ajay Ulmer and his staff exhibited a winninng attitude and a genuine concern for the student-athletes. They held a "Junction Boys" camp prior to the beginning of the football season that set the tone for the rest of the year. When it was over those boys were a team. They would have "walked through a lions den with a pork chop suit on" for their teammates and to please their coaches. The Quarterback Club provided for the needs of the players and truly makes them feel special. It appears to be the same in all of the youth activities including the CAAA, and JV sports. We saw and recognized people who attended all types athletic events whether or not they had children participating. They supported "their kids" whether or not they had to tell them to eat their vegetables and clean up their room. Jenna McKenna and the Chiefland Citizen gives the kids a chance to be hometown heroes and provides exceptional, quality coverage of youth sports.

It's good to know that we made a good decision to move back. That our decision was a positive one that has enhanced the life and education of our son. All of the sports coaches we have met here are the highest quality individuals that are concerned for their athletes. The town supports the kids and the local newspaper makes youth sports a priority.

It's great to be a Chiefland Indian!!!
